Junior Book of Camping and Woodcraft
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (March, 1978)
Author: Bs Mason
Average review score:

It tells everything you need to know about camping!
I first read this book when I was 11 years old. I was extremely interested in learning absolutely everything there was to know about camping, hiking, woodcraft, etc. I was delighted to find this book on a dusty shelf at the back of the library. It tells you how and what to pack for your trip, be it a day hike or a month long camping trip in the backwoods. There are many recipies for lunch/dinners that can be cooked all in one pot, as well as the traditionals like some-mores and lots-mores. The book tells you how to build different kinds of fires, depending on what type of fire you need: fire for light, heat, cooking, or the sit-around fire. It also tells you how to keep your fire going all night, and even how to start a fire without matches!!! There are many kinds of tents the book talks about, how many people they sleep and what type of trip it's for, as well as how to construct make-shift shelters from trees, blankets, logs, and canoes. There is a section of the book that tells how to make little extras, like cabinets, picnic tables, etc. This book has so much info-- even how to predict the weather accurately!!! This book contains ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING that you would ever need to know. I HIGHLY recomend it! It's advanced enough for the old-time camper, but also ideal for the beginner, like I was at the time. Great for both adults and kids. The Junior Book of Camping and Woodcraft caused me to want to go out on my own backcountry adventures, and I did!

A truly vibrant, truly multicultural children's book.
A lively engaging book that captures the essence of the multicultural ideal. Readers are introduced to contemporary artists with many diverse cultural backgrounds through short autobiographical sketches, photographs, and self portraits. An explanation of the self portrait is also included in the sketch. This is a great way for kids (or adults for that matter) to learn about art and multiculturism at the same time!

The Kingfisher First Picture Atlas
Published in Hardcover by Larousse Kingfisher Chambers (September, 1994)
Authors: Antony Mason, John Woodcock, and Eugene Fleury
Average review score:

Good First Atlas
Easy to read, colorful pictures, a great book for your child's collection. It has facts about the differnt lands, shows pictures of the animals native to relative regions and tibit facts. Very basic and simple. My daughter uses this as a reference to her storytime books. She will, for example, find Paris where 'Madeline' lives. It is easy to handle and look at too.

Larry The Lion
I am not under 13 but I read this book when I was and since it is out of print I thought I was eligable to write a review. It was one of my most favorite and memorable books as a child. I have been trying to find this book because I want my two children to read it also. My little brother loved this book and I was happy to volunteer to read it to him at his request. I feel any child with an imagination would absolutely love this book. It is definitely a must! Mom's out there...You need to find this one! Kelley Templet

After finishing medical school and never getting great teaching on the cardiac auscultatory exam, I purchased this book in hopes of learing a little more.

Every teacher should read this essential book.
This book gives detailed instructions for not only teaching reading and writing effectively, but how to reach EVERY child. Kathryn Au has provided us all with a step-by-step method for creating a readers' and writers' workshop in every classroom. This method will work with all children including ESL and SPED. Literacy Instruction for Today is an essential book for every classroom, including inclusive classrooms. Your children will not want to stop writing. Teachers who have tried this method claim that they can't get their students to stop writing. Not only are there step-by-step instructions for teachers to go by, there are also samples of students' work and teacher logs. Summer is a great time to buy this book. Teachers will then have time to plan their own readers' and writers' workshops for their classrooms in the Fall. Good news:this method is applicable for grades K-12 and beyond.

Lonely Planet Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) (Ho Chi Minh City Saigon, 2nd Ed)
Published in Paperback by Lonely Planet (November, 2000)
Authors: Mason Florence and Robert Storey
Average review score:

It's Good, It's Good
It's good it's good. Being light weight and small this edition is convenient. Plenty of useful information. The maps are accurate and comprehensive. Consulate information, and arrive/departure info. is good. The central area of Saigon is walkable and you can get some good exercise while seeing local street and shop life while admiring the nice archictecture. Some recent historical notes on what happened where in the city piques the interest. There are many listings in this LP edition for additional reading on Vietnam, and these books can be picked up here in the city, thanks to master copying abilities and black market. Changes are taking place here rapidly, but the communist government remains paranoid
